About Takara
Takara (宝) means treasure in Japanese — and that’s exactly the idea behind this shop: a small collection of carefully chosen finds with personality, a story, or simply that special feeling when something instantly catches your eye.
Takara wasn’t born from a business plan, but from a lifelong connection with Japan — and my love for things with character.
My first encounter with Japanese culture happened in 1991, when my mother enrolled me in karate. Since then, Japanese martial arts have followed me through life — from karate to jiu-jitsu, nanbudo, aikido, and eventually back to karate. In 2017, I opened my own karate club and visited Japan for the first time that same year. Since then, I’ve returned several times, bringing home a little more inspiration each time.
What draws me to Japan isn’t only what most people first notice — order, aesthetics, minimalism, and zen. I’m equally fascinated by its other side: playfulness, weirdness, humor, and that wonderful organized chaos that somehow exists right alongside discipline.
Takara was born from exactly that fascination.
Every item here is something I would genuinely choose for myself, selected through a fairly specific filter: it has to have personality, a bit of playfulness, and at least a hint of the unexpected.
I’m not trying to offer everything for everyone — only things that are practical, fun, delightfully odd, or simply the kind of thing that makes you think, okay, I need this.
Takara isn’t trying to be Japan. It’s my small tribute to the things I love about it — curated organized chaos, collected with a lot of curiosity and just a little bit of madness.
Welcome to Takara 🐙
